Screenwriter, playwright and producer Nathan Louis Jackson has died at the age of 44.
Jackson, whose screenwriting credits include the Marvel show Luke Cage and the drama series Shameless, passed away at his home in Lenexa, Kansas on August 22, 2023, his wife Megan Mascorro-Jackson announced. The Hollywood reporter.
Jackson suffered from heart problems and in 2019 he underwent an aortic dissection, his wife told the outlet. His family has decided not to perform an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
Jackson wrote two episodes of Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter as the titular superhero and ran from 2016 to 2018. He also served as the show’s co-producer and executive story editor.
As a playwright, Jackson wrote numerous works, including Broke-ology and When I Come to Die.

Speaking of Luke Cage, he previously told The Kansas City Star, “The series is making a bigger, bigger statement about African American men and how we see them.
“It is undoubtedly a black show. But at the same time, it’s just a superhero show. We are dealing with something that all other superheroes are dealing with. We just do it from a different point of view.’
Jackson’s impressive screenwriting credits also include SWAT, Resurrection and Genius. On his IMDb, he has a teleplay credit for an episode of 13 Reasons Why.
Jackson is from Kansas City, Kansas and received an MFA in playwriting from The Julliard School.
Broke-ology debuted at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts when Jackson was still attending Julliard The New York Times.
In a statement shared with Poster, his family said, “Jackson’s work often showed his love for his hometown. Having lived and worked on both coasts, Nathan’s heart belonged in Kansas City.
Nathan was especially passionate about bar-b-que and his Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson was a devoted supporter of the Kansas City arts community.”
“Jackson will be remembered by his loved ones for his warmth, kindness and his phone calls. He didn’t believe in texting and preferred to speak voice to voice whenever possible.”
