Scottie Scheffler makes history with incredible one-shot win at The Players Championship – defending champion becomes FIRST player ever to retain the title after Wyndham Clark suffers final putt heartbreak at TPC Sawgrass

Scottie Scheffler made history on Sunday with an astonishing comeback victory at The Players Championship.

The 2023 champion, who spent much of this week dealing with a neck injury at TPC Sawgrass, came back from five shots down in the final round to become the first player to ever retain the title in the tournament’s 50-year history.

Scheffler shot an eight-under-par 64 to finish at 20 under par – one ahead of Brian Harman, Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark, who saw a putt roll around the cup and not fall as he tried to force a play-off.
