Scott Morrison has joked that he is not “rocking to sleep” after losing the premiership to Anthony Albanese in last year’s federal election, while revealing what his life has been like since being relegated to the Liberal back bench.
Morrison largely moved away from politics after his shock election loss in May 2022 and has since focused his life on his family, the local community in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire and revisited his Christian spirituality.
While his time as prime minister was plagued with controversy, he made only one reference to commentators who criticized his tenure at the top job.
“If people think I’m sitting here rocking myself to sleep at night in a fetal position, no I’m not,” he told The Sunday Telegraph.

Reflecting on his tenure as prime minister, Morrison told the publication that he felt he gave the highest job in the country “everything he had” and “never wasted a day.”
He said he has received “enormous support” since returning to life in Sutherland Shire.
“The Shire has embraced us and it’s been quite a nice time to re-engage,” he said.
“Getting back in touch with our local community, our local church, our friends, our children’s school and the local neighborhood, this is all as we hoped it would be and it has been a very warm reception.”
Morrison spends her days driving her children to school, attending meetings at her election office, reading books, talking to locals and filling the time at church.
His choice of reading material includes ‘Christian books’ and books by the philosopher Rabbi Sacks, the American psychologist Jonathan Haidt and the renowned Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson.
He continued to post videos of his cooking and serving curries on social media, something he was known to do in his spare time.
He believes it’s “the main thing people keep following me on my social media (for)” as he is sometimes asked about his cooking in public.
Mr. Morrison has returned to life with his family in the Shire and has no intention of returning to politics.
Morrison did not reflect much on his political career or his time as prime minister.
People come up to him and mainly thank him for his work during the Covid pandemic and ‘on international issues like AUKUS (and) China’.
He did not address the controversy over secretly swearing in numerous portfolios while in office.
He has no plans to re-enter the political debate and wants to focus on enjoying suburban life.
Morrison pointedly avoided being critical of the current government, saying he has given Albanese the “courtesy and respect of having been chosen to get on with the job.”
