Scott Mills reveals he was forced to HALT filming for Celebrity Race Across The World after struggling with an ‘awful’ illness
Scott Mills has revealed he has had to temporarily stop filming Celebrity Race Across The World due to a ‘terrible’ illness.
The 51-year-old Radio 1 star joined forces with his partner Sam Vaughan to take on three other celebrities in a race across South America.
However, Scott said that while the first episode premieres on Wednesday, he had to stop filming for three days because he was suffering from “crazy” headaches.
He told Metro: ‘I started getting these crazy headaches – I never really have headaches – but I was getting really bad headaches, to the point where one day I said, “I can’t film today, I’m really sorry.”
‘Of course there was a doctor present and he made sure I ate and gave me tablets to solve the problem, but it took three days before it was gone.’

Scott then explained that Sam was the one who had discovered the cause of his illness and asked if he had consumed caffeine in the past few days.
The couple admitted that Scott’s reliance on his morning coffee caused a lot of strife during their trip to South America, as it took a big bite out of their tight budget.
In this star-studded episode of the BBC show, Scott and Sam competed against Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, Jeff Brazier and son Freddy Brazier, and Kola Bokinni and niece Mary Ellen to reach the final checkpoint as quickly as possible.
Sam added: ‘For me, it was frustrating to always spend more money on coffee. And he was like, ‘Well, I need this to function.’ So I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll give you that.’
Scott added that he sometimes struggled with the extremely high temperatures in South America and the language barrier during his trip through Brazil.
The star added that it was “horrible” not being allowed to use his phone during the challenge, but he has said he will put his device away when he and Sam get married in October.
After filming Celebrity Race Across The World, Scott and Sam married in a ceremony in Barcelona in June.
In the second season of the series’ spin-off, which stars celebrities like Ted Lasso and iconic TV hosts, they compete against each other to reach their final destination without the help of phones or money.

Ted Lasso’s Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen will take on TV presenter and announcer Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy, 20.
With a budget of just over £1,000, their journey starts in Belém, northern Brazil – the gateway to the Amazon – and passes through five checkpoints across South America.
They will do everything they can to reach the finish in the Andes, Frutillar in southern Chile.
In addition to the celebrities, their loved ones are also guests. This offers a unique insight into the people we thought we knew, through the eyes of those who know them best.
Race Across The World airs every Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
