The hosts get the ball rolling and we’re on our way. There is raw emotion on display and this is going to be a blast.
Boos salute the English national anthem
The English national anthem is played first and there is a lot of cheering in Hampden Park, to the point where you can barely hear ‘God save the King’ as a large number of Scottish supporters make their feelings known.

“We are trying to find the balance between stability and experience and we have to do that in the coming months, but also some freshness in the team, so many different objectives.”

Is this Scotland’s best chance to beat England?
Scotland haven’t beaten England in this tie since the turn of the millennium, but tonight is probably their best chance since then.
The home side have plenty of Premier League firepower and are one of Europe’s most in-form sides after winning their first five European Championship qualifiers.
Their midfield has an abundance of talent with McTominay, McGinn and Gilmour and while it may not be on the same level as the English midfield, they have shown that they are more than capable of scoring.
Southgate’s decision to play Rice and Phillips in a double midfield pivot shows that England are wary of the danger and that Jude Bellingham will be the man responsible for adding creativity from deep.
Scotland can qualify for the European Championship tonight
The hosts will focus most of their attention on England tonight, but will also keep an eye on events across the North Sea.
Norway will take on Georgia in a European Championship qualifier in Group A and a draw will see Scotland become the first team to qualify for next year’s competition in Germany.
We’ll keep you posted on the progress in that game.
England emerge at Hampden Park
England players are the first out for their warm-up and have emerged at Hampden Park to loud cheers. The places are already taken and we are still 40 minutes away from kick-off.
There will be a great atmosphere in the stadium as two fierce rivals meet again and England will have to quiet this crowd early or it could be a long night.

Tonight marks the 150th anniversary of the first meeting between the sport’s oldest rivals, with both teams wearing iconic celebration shirts to mark the occasion.

SCOTLAND TEAM NEWS
Steve Clarke has named an unchanged team from the team that beat Cyprus with a 3-0 win last time.
Scotland supporters will look to Manchester United’s Scott McTominay to continue his stellar goalscoring run, which has seen him jointly top the rankings for European Championship qualifying goals with six strikes so far.
England will also have to be wary of the midfield threats posed by Billy Gilmour and John McGinn.
England manager Gareth Southgate has named a strong line-up to take on Scotland, but it may not be the strongest he could have named.
There are rare starts for Lewis Dunk and Kalvin Phillips, while Phil Foden is also drawn back into the fray. Declan Rice will partner Phillips in a midfield pivot, showing Southgate’s wariness of Scotland’s attack.
Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire are both dropped to the bench, with Bukayo Saka also joining them among the substitutes.
Good evening and thank you for attending the 150th meeting of the oldest football rivals. Tonight may be seen as a friendly, but it will be anything but that as the two sides clash at Hampden Park in front of a baying crowd. The kick-off is at 7.45 pm.
