Feed your ex ‘to the lions’ for just $10: Scorned lovers can name a cockroach after their former significant other that an animal devours at the San Antonio Zoo on Valentine’s Day

You can ‘feed your ex to the lions’ in a fundraiser that lets people name a cockroach or rodent that is then fed to an animal at the San Diego Zoo on Valentine’s Day.

As part of the zoo’s annual ‘Cry me a Cockroach’ event, donors can send their former lover a digital Valentine’s Day Card informing them that a creature was named in their honor and fed to an animal.

The zoo charges $10 for cockroaches and $25 to name a rodent, and anyone in the world can participate.

Those looking for sweet revenge can pay for the $150 premium package, which includes a personalized video message showing the not-so-special someone the animal feasting on their cockroach, vegetable or rodent.

While none of the creatures will be fed to lions, they will be eaten by birds and lizards.

The San Diego Zoo is hosting its annual ‘Cry me a Cockroach’ fundraiser. This event lets people name a cockroach that is then fed to an animal at the zoo

There is a ‘vegan’ option for $5, which features greens to be eaten by herbivores.

Participants will receive a certificate they can share on social media, which can also be sent to their ex.

‘Dear [Name],’ it reads. ‘You ex, [Name], has named a cockroach in our honor, to be eaten on 2/14. Feel free to tune in now to the cockroach live stream at sazoo.org/you-blew-it,’ the note will read.

The most submitted names so far are Zach, Ray and Adam, and Jacob and Sarah were the most popular last year.

Last year, San Antonio Zoo received more than 8,000 donations from all 50 states and over 30 different countries, according to CNN.

Fans are flocking to Twitter to share their excitement about the event.

User by the name of Amy Ruby Rose posted: ‘For Valentine’s Day, San Antonio Zoo will let you name a cockroach after an ex before feeding it to one of their animals. This is the level of pettiness I aspire to.’

While another user is ready to sign up to have their ex’s name eaten by a zoo animal.

While the event is sparking laughs on social media – some users are running at the chance to partake – it is aimed at raising money for the wildlife that call San Antonio Zoo home.

The zoo made headlines in August 2022 when it provided a new pair of orthopedic rubber boots to a penguin with a degenerative foot condition.

The aquatic, flightless bird named Lucas developed what is known as bumblefoot that caused lesions on his feet and would have led to sepsis and death if left untreated.

In a race against time, zoo staff turned to Thera-Paw.

This organization creates rehabilitative and assistive products for animals with special needs, which designed custom shoes made of neoprene and rubber to prevent pressure sores from developing when Lucas stands and walks.

Lucas’ gait has improved since wearing the small, black boots and his ability to navigate through the rocky habitat.

His posture is also more natural, providing him with better balance.
