Sci-fi series tops IMDB’s list of trending shows after ‘disappointing’ first season FLOPPED in 2022
A sci-fi series has taken the number one spot on IMDB following the release of its second season – despite the show’s ‘disappointing’ debut in 2022.
The first season of the video game adaptation was considered a “one-hit wonder” by viewers who felt the story was written by a “high school student” and the graphics were “low budget CGI.”
But Halo season two, released this month, is now number one on IDMB’s list of the best science fiction TV series.
The Paramount+ series has 7.2 stars and more than 81,000 votes, overtaking popular series like Netflix’s Stranger Things and Black Mirror.
Halo also has an 89 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes β a jump from season one’s 61 percent rating.
The show is based on the popular Xbox franchise of the same name, which revolves around a war between aliens and humans in the 26th century β with Master Chief as the main character.

Viewers have said that Halo is worth a second look because it is more visually appealing with realistic action scenes.
The improvement is also due to a more streamlined, focus on character development and core storylines without the unnecessary distractions that many reportedly experienced in the first season.
‘Wie Season 2, Halo “I’ve made substantial improvements, creating a more cohesive and compelling series worth watching,” said FilmWeb.
Viewers are also excited that more aliens have made their way into the new season, which focuses on the hit video game.
Halo, released by Paramount+ on March 24, 2022, is produced by SHOWTIME.
The live-action adaptation had been in the works for years.
Production began in 2019 on the nine-episode season, which was originally scheduled to air on Showtime but moved to Paramount+ in February 2021.

The first season of the video game adaptation was considered a “one-hit wonder” by viewers who felt the story was written by a “high school student” and the graphics were “low budget CGI.”
The show stars Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, a cybernetically enhanced super soldier, who leads his team of Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.
The first season focused heavily on Master Chief, whose real name is John, especially how he was taken from the human colony world of Eridanus as a child and recruited by the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) into the SPARTAN-II super soldier project.
The series also introduced an ancient relic that only John can activate by touch, which then becomes a sought-after object throughout the galaxy.
One of the main flaws viewers found was that John spent most of the season without his helmet – the first time it has been removed in the twenty years the video game has been out.
Furthermore, far too much of the show’s runtime was spent exploring storylines unrelated to the Master Chief basting the sinister alien Covenant – and left many fans cold.
The bad reviews seemed to come from die-hard Halo gamers who believed the adaptation was nothing like what they saw on Xbox.

βFirstly, it’s a bit cheesy with the actor’s voice and not using the voice actor from the game doesn’t translate well at all on the big screen. The suit looks good, the actions are all fine and dandy, but the real kicker is Master Chief takes off his helmet and kills the atmosphere early on. I’m sure it won’t get another season, but we’ll see, a reviewer shared on IBDM in 2022.
However, those unfamiliar with the game enjoyed the show and said the first series was a good start.
‘Really the first episode. People complaining about him taking off his helmet and not being voiced by Steve need to kick stones,β reads a 2022 review on IBDM.
βThere are still a lot of episodes left and there will be a season 2.β
Paramount+ had announced that a second season was on the way before the first even hit the platform, but the release happened this month, rocketing Halo to the top spot on IMDB.
In season two, Master Chief John-117 (Pablo Schreiber) leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.
In the aftermath of a shocking event on a deserted planet, John can’t shake the feeling that his war is about to change and he risks everything to prove what no one else will believe: that the Covenant is preparing to… to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humanity’s salvation, or extinction: the Halo.
