Schoolteacher Rebecca Joynes, 30, who ‘took virginity of her 16-year-old pupil’ is set to give evidence at sex offences trial

Teacher Rebecca Joynes, who ‘took the virginity of her 16-year-old student’, will testify today as she stands trial for sex offences.

The 30-year-old, who arrived at court earlier with her father, is said to have had sex with the student – known as Boy B – at least 30 times after they started messaging on Snapchat.

Manchester Crown Court previously heard the maths teacher ‘shamelessly’ continued the relationship while on bail and awaiting trial for ‘grooming’ and having sex with another 15-year-old student – known as Boy A.

On Friday, the jury was shown video interviews Boy B gave to police after Joynes was arrested for a second time, in which he described losing his virginity to her in her luxury Manchester apartment.

Joynes imagined herself arriving at the courthouse this morning with her father. The 30-year-old is said to have had sex with the student, known as Boy B, at least 30 times after they started messaging on Snapchat.

“It was obviously my first time, so I was nervous,” the youngster said.

Afterwards, Joynes told the teenager, who feared he had not performed well, “It’s your first time, it was great.”

Boy B said he kept the affair a secret from his parents for 18 months, during which time the couple had unprotected sex dozens of times. He claimed Joynes insisted she had a condition that made her unlikely to become pregnant.

But on a ‘date night’ – the night before she was arrested for a second time – Joynes scattered rose petals around her flat and organized a sex game full of ‘surprises’ for the boy, the court was told.

The game involved an Ann Summers scratch card with sexual activities and hidden notes, leading him to discover that she was expecting his baby.

“It was a baby grow in the end,” the boy said. “It said something like, ‘Dear Dad’ (on it) and I was like, ‘What the fuck!’

“She started crying and I started crying because we weren’t sure if we were going to get rid of it or not.

“That was probably the lowest point, we were irresponsible. It’s my own fault. I also thought, “What the hell am I going to do?”

Joynes denies any sexual activity took place with either teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons

‘I can’t hide a child. I had hidden the relationship from my parents for eighteen months.’

Recalling the moment to police, he said: “She was crying. She said, ‘I don’t know if I can do this alone.’

Joynes, who wore a pink baby hat tucked into her trousers in the dock, wiped away tears on Friday as the witness added: ‘I have also been thinking about my child’s future. I also want the best for my child.’

In a statement read to the jury, Boy B’s father said his son’s relationship with the teacher had caused a “family rift” because his wife “wanted answers right away” while he had wanted to wait for his son “to tell us ‘. in his own time’.

Boy B’s older brother had known about the relationship but had been ‘stupid’, thought it was ‘funny’ and had not told his parents, the jury was told.

Boy B said he “loved Joynes,” but the relationship deteriorated and she became jealous and controlling, even accusing him of cheating on her with other girls.

He said he eventually realized the relationship was wrong and that he had “sacrificed 18 months for a pedophile.”

Boy B said, “I would tell her, ‘You’re crazy, you need help. You’re a nonce.’

“You should find someone your own age, you are beautiful enough.”

‘I think she was playing a game with me. I really loved her, to be honest, and she said she loved me.

“Now that I think about it, it was emotional abuse. She actually mentally abused me. It was mental warfare. I sacrificed eighteen months for a pedophile.’

Under cross-examination, Boy B admitted that he had “lied” to police about the timeline of events, but said he had done so to “protect” Joynes, as they had first met when he was 15.

Mr Michael O’Brien, defending, told him he had not ‘kissed and cuddled’ Joynes the first time he went to her flat and that they had not had sex for the first time in February 2022 as he claimed.

But Boy B insisted it was.

Mr O’Brien said the boy gave a second interview to police to say they had sex before he left school ‘to put the boot in’.

‘She was carrying my child. I would never, ever do that,” he replied.

Joynes denies six counts of sexual activity with a child, including two while a person in a position of trust, between October 2021 and July 2022.
