A private school in Melbourne has been blown up by AFL media heavyweight Craig Hutchison after they reprimanded footy legend Matthew Lloyd for his involvement in boozy grand proms.
Essendon legend Lloyd was briefly withdrawn from Haileybury College after attending a boozy bash with underage students following their landmark footy victory over the weekend. He apologized for participating in the party.
But Hutchison has called on the school to ‘get its head out of its ass’ and bemoaned the state of society following the university’s decision to temporarily lay Lloyd down.
“Of all the people involved in a drinking scandal, someone is not drinking,” Hutchison said on his SEN show Off the Bench.
“I’ve followed Matthew’s journey with Haileybury… he’s the most remarkable leader of people, of young men, what he’s done with that group to instill leadership, confidence, self-esteem and for them to overcome the odds and win. Great win.

“In 2023, after their kids win a grand final, if parents can’t have a small gathering in a home where some kids may or may not be under parental supervision, he’ll be called for 90 minutes to say hello and acknowledge the victory and the school issued a press release.
“Give me a spell. Honestly. What kind of world do we live in.’
Lloyd led the school’s first football boys’ team to win the 2023 Associated Public School premiership, beating rivals Caulfield Grammar to the top prize.
The 45-year-old is one of six staff members facing disciplinary action for attending the alcohol-fuelled party.

“Parents have the right to supervise their children as they see fit,” Hutchison added.
“And if Matthew was invited to come over and say hello… he’s not even drinking. That’s a joke. That school needs to get its head out of its ass.
“What are they doing, honestly. That is too official, could have been handled privately. They didn’t have to be grandiose statements. A little common sense.’
