Monday Joseph Bennett, the co-creator of the animated science fiction drama Scavengers ruleposted an update on the status of the series on Instagram. Bad news first: Netflix has passed on the opportunity to greenlight a second season of the Emmy-nominated series. Despite this setback, the creative team behind the show is still passionate about creating a sequel to the series, so much so that they have produced a spec trailer for what will be a second season of Scavengers rule could look like.
“From now on Scavengers rule will not be renewed for a second season,” Bennett wrote in his post. “I just wanted to let everyone know right away because I really love our fanbase. They’ve been such champions for the show and I don’t want to let anyone down.”
The concept trailer is, unsurprisingly, beautiful. In the trailer, which is believed to take place some time after the end of the first season, we see a glimpse of Azi pulling an alien from a stalactite in a huge cave; an ornate spacecraft decorated with golden skulls that lands on the surface of Vesta; the survivors of the crashed Demeter ship who manipulate the planet’s local wildlife to transport cargo and supplies; and Ursula calmly steps into a strange plant-like pod that envelops her. We even get a glimpse of everyone’s favorite biomechanical robot Levi trying to reach a strange flying creature!
There’s not much to say, but it’s nonetheless reassuring that Bennett, co-creator Charles Huettner, and the animation team at Green Street Pictures have a clear idea of where they want to go with the series. That is, if and when it gets a second season Scavengers rule is ever produced.
“This is not the end. There is more story to tell, we are ready to make another season,” Bennett said after thanking everyone who worked on the series.
