Maverick the black Labrador turned out to be a bit timid than his Top Gun namesake — froze at the sight of Halloween cat decorations.
The petrified pup had abandoned his owners when he got out of a home in Ingleside, Texas — a town on the Gulf of Mexico 26 miles from downtown Corpus Christi.
Maverick was surrounded by creepy Halloween cats and didn’t know what to do.
He stiffened without moving a muscle. Even his tail was like stone.
Lilly Flores, an emergency room nurse who posted the clip, laughed at her dumb dog — who still refused to move despite her insistence.
Maverick the black Labrador spotted the ‘terrifying’ black cats – and froze
Terrified dog’s owners tried to persuade him to move, but Maverick was rooted on the spot
Even his owners calling, whistling and moving around him couldn’t entice Maverick to move
As she moved the camera, Maverick stood still.
“His tail didn’t even cringe,” she said, laughing as a man’s voice called to the horrified dog.
You hear a young child laugh and say, “He’s afraid of the cats.”
Finally, the man had to go straight to Maverick, who still refused to move, and show him that it was possible to escape the ‘cat trap’.
“Come on, man, it’s okay!” the man said, eventually causing the dog to wag its tail and flee the horror scene.
The clip, posted to Flores’ TikTok page, has been viewed nearly 12 million times.
One user online wrote: ‘I’m not convinced it’s not just a decoration.’
While another wrote: ‘Omg! Frozen stiff! I wouldn’t have believed it to be a real dog if it didn’t break its stance in the end!’
