Savannah Guthrie took her cue from co-host Hoda Kotb and left the Today show mid-broadcast to take her kids to their first day of school.
Kotb, 59, abruptly ran out of Studio 1A on Wednesday to watch her daughters — Haley and Hope — start the new school year, and the next day it was Guthrie’s turn to be with her children.
The Today star shares a daughter, nine-year-old Vale, and a son, six-year-old Charley, with her husband, communications consultant Mike Feldman.
Guthrie, 51, made a quieter exit on Thursday than her colleague did this week, opting to duck between segments rather than during the live broadcast.

Craig Melvin, 44, stepped in and explained the heartwarming reason for her sudden disappearance to viewers.
“Savannah had to leave early,” he said after sitting down in her co-anchor chair. “It’s her kids’ first day of school, so good luck to Vale and Charley.”
“Yes, have a nice first day!” Kotb added.
The Hope Is A Rainbow author had a slightly more dramatic departure when she left the show to be with her daughters on Wednesday.
She kept viewers updated on what was going on in the episode when she suddenly revealed that she had to take Haley, six, and Hope, four, to school with her former fiancé, financier Joel Schiffman.
As the show approached 7:25 a.m., Guthrie joked that Kotb was “on the run.”
“I’m taking my kids to school!” Kotb exclaimed before jumping up and asking, “Okay, can I leave right now?”
“Yes, give them a hug for us,” Guthrie replied.

The mom proudly recapped her daughters’ milestone day while chatting with her co-host, Jenna Bush Hager, at the start of the show’s fourth hour.
“I was so excited,” she said. ‘I left the set at half past six. I live about 20 minutes from 30 Rock, so I drove home and grabbed the backpacks for my kids.
‘They were all ready. They burst. Haley is going to first grade and Hope is going to kindergarten, and they go to the same school.”
Kotb shared photos from the show as she recalled how “Haley sprinted away with her friends” when they arrived.
“It was like, ‘Bye!’ We were like, “Okay, have a nice day.” She was gone, dust!’ she said of the first grader.
“The hope was high,” she added. “She started playing with some people, and they do a phase-in. She stayed for about an hour.”
