Sauce Gardner sparks ‘Drake Curse’ fears among Jets fans after posting a picture with the world-famous rapper, before telling supporters ‘we good’ in follow-up post
Sauce Gardner has sparked fears among Jets fans that the team will fall victim to the ‘Drake Curse’ after he posted a photo with the rapper.
The cornerback, who is entering his third season after two All-Pro campaigns, shared a photo with himself, Odell Beckham Jr., on Thursday. and the Canadian hitmaker of X.
And some Jets fans were concerned about Gardner’s association with Drake, as the rapper has been known to curse players and teams he favors.
“Bro bro please stay away from Drake he is a curse on all franchises,” said one fan said under Gardner’s X-post.
“Jets season is over before it started now,” another said.
Sauce Gardner posted a photo next to Drake and Odell Beckham Jr. on his X account
The cornerback later posted on X to allay Jets fans’ fears of the ‘Drake curse’
In response to Jets fans’ concerns, Gardner himself said, “I told Drake to bet on all the other 31 teams every week. Relax Jets fans… alright.”
Drake is notorious as an extremely high-stakes sports gambler and has lost some huge bets, although his gambling has also yielded some huge wins.
For example, he won $1.38 million by betting on Gervonta Davis to beat Ryan Garcia last year.
So the ‘Drake Curse’ refers more to his actual fandom of teams.
Gardner has been brilliant in the NFL since being drafted by the Jets
After stating that he was rooting for Alabama to win the 2019 national championship, the Crimson Tide lost to Clemson, while his favorite college basketball team, Kentucky, hasn’t won a national championship since 2012.
Drake was also brought out by Conor McGregor for the weigh-in ahead of his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018 (which McGregor would later lose), FanDuel noted, and the rapper also saw Johnny Manziel flop in the NFL after name-dropping him in the song “Draft Day.”
Nevertheless, Drake’s hometown Toronto Raptors did win a title in 2019.
