Saturday Kitchen host begs viewers to ‘not watch’ guest Rob Rinder as crew forced to intervene during live TV disaster
Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt begged viewers not to watch guest Rob Rinder during the show’s most recent episode.
Chef and host Matt, 49, was forced to improvise awkwardly when the crew had to intervene during a live TV disaster.
Rob, 45, was invited on the show as a guest to help with cooking while plugging an upcoming BBC show, which he fronts.
But a technical glitch arose, with the television star’s lapel microphone suddenly cutting off mid-stream, meaning he couldn’t be heard by viewers at home.
Matt tried to cover up the issue by taking over the chat, but with Rob’s microphone still on mute, a member of the crew came on screen to trade him for a replacement, with the host saying to viewers : “No one is looking that way.”

Yuck! A technical glitch occurred, with Rob’s lapel microphone suddenly cutting off mid-stream, meaning he couldn’t be heard by viewers at home
Quick Fix: Matt tried to cover up the issue by taking over the chat, but with Rob’s mic still muted, a member of the crew came on screen to trade it for a replacement
While helping Matt cook one of his favorite summer dishes: clam with vinegar and pepper, Rob spoke about his debut in BBC’s fifth season of Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby 2023.
Excitedly sharing anecdotes from filming the show, recalling “going to the best hotels in the world,” which he insisted was “not about bling, it’s about what they offer their communities.”
But just as the lawyer described telling the stories of a woman in her 90s dying of Covid-19, Rob’s voice stopped abruptly.
Matt quickly understood the dilemma through a producer in his ear updating him on the situation. Matt picked up on Rob’s conversation and went on to talk about the importance of giving back.
But as Rob tried to add his thoughts, not realizing that his voice was stupid to viewers, Matt told him, “Hold that thought for a second, I’m just going to run you through the mariniere (sauce),” in an attempt to stop Rob from trying to talk.
Finally, Matt said to Rob, “Sorry we lost your mic for now,” before continuing in comedic style as he chuckled as he said, “So I’ll keep talking, let’s watch me, I’ll keep talking while we change Rob’s microphone, nobody looks that way.’
As the camera focused on Rob who had a new microphone attached to his lapel, Matt joked, “We should do that in secret!”
Fortunately, Rob’s voice was soon heard again, with the lawyer announcing loud and clear, “Greetings everyone, it’s a pleasure to be here!”
