Sarina Wiegman has signed a new contract with England, allowing her to continue as head coach until the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Since taking over the Lionesses in 2021, Wiegman has been a revelation and the most successful England women’s manager in history.
Her highlight came when she led the Lionesses to their first-ever major trophy at Euro 2022, before losing the World Cup final 1-0 to Spain last summer.
Wiegman’s new contract comes after she was awarded the prize for best women’s coach at FIFA’s Best Awards on Monday, beating Chelsea’s Emma Hayes and Barcelona’s Jonatan Giraldez.
After her new contract was confirmed, Wiegman said: “I am so pleased to have the opportunity to lead England through to 2027 after an incredible two and a half years.

“Looking ahead, we still have unfinished business and I know we are capable of even more, even though nothing will be easy.
“Our game is becoming so competitive at the highest level. I’m relishing that opportunity and can’t wait to start the EURO qualifiers, followed by the World Cup.
‘I would like to thank Mark Bullingham, Debbie Hewitt and the FA board for their support. I must also mention Arjan Veurink, I am happy that he has also extended his stay.
‘It’s fantastic to work with these great players and great colleagues. And of course it is very special to be able to play a role in delivering such wonderful moments to our fans.
FA CEO Mark Bullingham added: ‘We are pleased that Sarina has agreed to extend her time with us as we head into another important period in international football.
“She has accomplished so much through her outstanding work as a coach and leader, and there is more to come.
‘The aim of our England teams is to be a consistent competitive force in major tournaments, and Sarina has helped us achieve that – building on several years of positive progress.
‘She has also been a great ambassador for women’s football, and for English football in general.’
“Her dedication to what we are trying to do to grow the grassroots for all and promote the Lionesses player journey is there for all to see.
‘Sarina is an inspiration to so many at home and abroad, and it’s wonderful that her time with us at Wembley and St. George’s Park will continue.’
Wiegman has an astonishing record with the Lionesses, winning 34 of her 45 matches with a winning percentage of 75.56 percent.
She was previously in charge of the Netherlands for five years and led the Netherlands to the 2017 European Championship title before they lost in the 2019 World Cup final.
