Sarah’s Day: Aussie influencer in ‘racism’ row over innocent joke about her son’s school lunch
An Australian influencer has been branded ‘racist’ for calling her son’s egg sandwiches ‘stinky’.
Wellness influencer Sarah Stevenson, known as Sarah’s Day to her 1.2 million followers, divided the internet this week with her comments.
While the majority of fans defended the star and said the reaction was a complete overreaction, others demanded she make a public apology.
The drama started when the 31-year-old vlogger said her son would be ‘the stinky kid on the playground’ if he took curry egg sandwiches to school for lunch.
‘Do you want to be a “smelly curry egg boy”?’ she asked the boy.

Sarah’s statement infuriated one of her followers, who sent her a direct message accusing her of being “borderline racist” and casting “huge shadow” on an entire culture.
The vlogger explained herself and said she was referring to the ‘egg smell’ and not the curry.
“Didn’t everyone go to school with someone who brought eggs to lunch and you said, ‘Um, you smell like rotten eggs’?” Not “you smell like curry!” I’m racist when it comes to eggs,” she joked.
Sarah’s comments infuriated one of her followers, who sent her a direct message accusing the influencer of being “borderline racist” and casting “huge shadow” on an entire culture.
Sarah made light of the situation and then showed her followers how to make ‘racist eggs’ in a cooking tutorial.
She also joked that she was dyslexic, but then said it was fine because her husband has the learning disability.
The clip was posted to Outspoken the Podcast’s official Instagram account, where dozens of fans spoke out about the issue.
“She should have apologized and taken it down, but she made it worse,” one barked.
“She should have apologized and let the comment go to not draw so much attention to it,” said another.

However, despite some backlash, the vast majority of responses were in favor of Sarah.
‘I just think it’s been taken way too out of context, why can’t we now talk about the fact that curry egg stinks… it does!!’ wrote one.
‘Smell eggs, period. She’s under a microscope for absolutely everything she says, no wonder she’s confused. Leave the poor girl alone,” wrote another.
One said: ‘Let’s not think about it too much! Honestly. We all know the smell of boiled eggs! People should just stop being so sensitive.”
Despite the backlash, many of Sarah’s followers defended her, pointing out that eggs actually stink and it’s not such a bad thing to describe them as such.
Eggs do indeed smell bad because of the sulfur in them, which becomes more apparent when they are cooked.
According to culinary scientist Jessica Gavin, cooking eggs releases the iron in the yolk, while the egg white releases sulfur and hydrogen, creating the odor.
There are certain cooking tricks and tips that can disperse the stench, such as boiling eggs with a few teaspoons of white distilled vinegar.
