Sarah Snook beamed in a depressing ensemble as she took on the latest cover of Variety while revealing that the end of HBO’s succession was “devastating” for her.
The 35-year-old Golden Globe winner, who was recently labeled “the nicest celebrity ever,” most notably played the role of Shiv Roy on the show, which ended in May after four seasons.
The star, who recently welcomed her first child, a girl, opened up about her retirement from the series and her character’s future.
Snook revealed that she found out there wouldn’t be a fifth season at “the final read-through,” adding, “everyone found out back then too.”
“It was devastating, Sarah admitted. “I didn’t get a chance to finish the script until I got to the read through.”

“I was quickly devouring it on the way in the car. And by the time I was done, I just arrived and thought, ‘That’s it. It’s done,'” the star explained.
She recalled that reading through, her co-star, Matthew, had been “hopeful” for another season. “But once we got to the room, Jesse made an announcement and said, ‘Yeah. As you can see, this is the last one.'”
Notably, Jesse Armstrong is the creative mind behind the hit series, which won a Golden Globe for Best TV Series and an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series over the course of its airtime.
After a rivalry between Roy’s siblings – also played by Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin – Shiv’s husband, Tom, was played by Matthew Macfayden, the CEO of Waystar RoyCo to close out the show.
In regards to what Sarah thinks is the next step for Shiv, the actress stated that she’s “about to have a baby, all of this has failed, she’s sort of thrown back into a world with her husband that isn’t a great situation.” used to be. prior to.’
