Sara Lee bought by Australian family after going into administration

Sara Lee has been bought by a private company owned by an Australian family after the much-loved frozen dessert brand went into administration three months ago.

The company was rescued by Klark and Brooke Quinn, with the Quinn family coming to the rescue of chocolate brand Darrell Lea when it went into voluntary administration in 2012.

Sara Lee was appointed administrators on October 17, shocking many Aussies who regularly indulge in the brand’s iconic frozen desserts.

The sale has secured the jobs of Sara Lee’s 200 employees.

Administrator Vaughan Strawbridge said the sale is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

“Staff and consumers have rallied behind the company during this difficult time, and we are so grateful to the loyal staff and management team who made this process a success while continuing to produce great products,” he said.

“We have enjoyed working with the Sara Lee team and are pleased that they have come through this process.

“Many employees have been with Sara Lee for a long time and we have seen their passion for the company.

‘In addition to the staff, we would also like to thank all the suppliers who have continued to support the business and the customers, who have been vital to the continued existence of the business. We look forward to its future success.”

Klark Quinn is the son of Tony Quinn, who founded the VIP Petfoods company, which was sold for $410 million in 2015.

Tony bought Darrell Lea for $11 million and saw its success soar before selling it in 2018 for $200 million.

“We are a small Australian family who share the tradition of having Sara Lee apple pie and vanilla ice cream at the dinner table every Sunday evening and we couldn’t be more proud to put our Aussie-made and signature stamp on the Sara Lee brand. Klark and Brooke Quinn said.

Sara Lee was founded in Australia in 1971 on the N.S.W Central Coast.

Following the administration, a desperate hunt was launched to find a new buyer for the company.

The company operates in Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
