Glamorous ex-banker Sara Daizli accused of swindling hundreds of thousands of dollars is hit with new legal battle – as she fronts court in skintight outfit with designer accessories

  • Former St. George banker faces civil suit
  • She already faces 120 criminal charges

Westpac is tracking down a former St George Bank employee as she prepares to fight allegations she defrauded multiple banks.

According to police, Sara Daizli abused her role at St. George Bank to open accounts under fictitious names and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars between February 2016 and December 2018.

She is said to have transferred money to her bank account under a false name and used the ill-gotten money to line her own pockets.

The 32-year-old is also accused of submitting fraudulent loan applications to St George and ANZ banks.

She has pleaded not guilty to a whopping 120 charges, including dealing in the proceeds of crime and 108 counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

On Tuesday, Ms Daizli wore a short, tight beige dress and a long white blazer with black high heels, believed to be Christian Louboutin pumps, when she appeared in court at Sydney’s Downing Centre ahead of her trial.

She also wore a pair of Louis Vuitton sunglasses, believed to be worth around $850.

Ms Daizli’s lawyer, Abigail Bannister, revealed that Ms Daizli is also facing a civil action brought by Westpac Bank in connection with her alleged fraud.

Ms Bannister served four summonses on the bank in connection with the criminal allegations against her client, some of which also related to the civil proceedings, the court heard.

A lawyer for Westpac told the court the bank had gone to “great lengths” to locate and hand over the requested documents, but the scale of the material sought meant the subpoenas “may be too oppressive”.

He told the court that Westpac had not been provided with a statement of Ms Daizli’s proposed defence and that the bank therefore had “no idea why these documents were being requested”.

The parties will discuss a number of issues relating to the subpoenas at a hearing later this month.

Ms Bannister urged the case to be resolved as quickly as possible as her client’s trial was due to begin in September.

“We fear that the trial date will be jeopardised if the bank is not given sufficient time to produce the documents,” she said.

‘A great many documents are being sought.’

Acting Judge Graeme Henson adjourned the case until July 19, urging the parties to limit the number of issues in dispute.
