Saquon Barkley has opened up about the worst shenanigans he experienced as a rookie with the New York Giants, while Eli Manning was responsible for the most bizarre.
Barkley, who signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month, spent six seasons with the Giants after they selected him with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
The running back earned two Pro-Bowl selections during his time in New York, where he developed from a young 22-year-old prospect to one of the league’s standout players at 27 years old.
During a performance at Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcastBarkley recalled his days as a rookie for the Giants, where two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Manning took on the role of chief joker.

The running back shed light on some of the funniest tricks played on him as a rookie
After being asked about the best stunts pulled on him as a newcomer, he told the Kelce brothers, “Eli was a little prankster. He got me once. He did something where he threw grass in my mouth.
‘He’s sitting there and he says, ‘My tooth is hurting me a little bit.’ Also from scratch. We’re in practice and I’m like “bro, you got a lot of money, you should probably go get that checked out.”
‘He says, “No, I’m going to show you where it is” and then just threw grass in my mouth. At that point he just started laughing and stuff. That’s probably my only joke.’
Travis and Jason were stunned by Manning’s unusual prank, but Barkley has since taken a leaf out of his book when he himself shared a locker room with rookies.
“I stole this from him and I’ll do it to the rookies,” he continued. “I make the rookies put the water bottle down (down) and then turn it so it’s not actually on when you think it’s on, and then the rookies drink it. He never really got me, but I saw him do it.”
Barkley is preparing for a new chapter in Philadelphia, where older brother Kelce recently retired from his NFL career after thirteen seasons with the Eagles.
Jason joked about his frustration with the former Giants man heading to Philly as soon as he left the sport during a previous edition of New Heights, claiming he could miss an “excellent season” at Lincoln Financial Field.

And after parting ways with New York, Barkley shared a fierce response from his daughter Jada, who roasted his former team after signing for the Eagles.
Barkley revealed in an interview with his new team, “When I told her we were going to Philly, she was kind of like, ‘Does this mean we’re going to win now?’
He only managed one winning season with the Giants, when they went 9-7-1 in 2022.
That was the only season Barkley made the playoffs with New York as they defeated the Minnesota Vikings before falling to the Eagles in the divisional round.
Philadelphia has fared much better than their division rivals recently, reaching the Super Bowl twice in the last six seasons.
