Sanna Marin shares selfies walking from trip to New York including a ‘working lunch’ and stroll in Central Park

She’s a jetsetter who spent last week in Berlin.

But now Sanna Marin is on her way to New York.

The former Prime Minister of Finland 38, shared personal photos from the trip with her Instagram stories, including an informal walk through Central Park.

The jet-setting mother of one headed to New York just days after her visit to Berlin, where she visited a Holocaust memorial and the German Health Ministry.

This time, however, she seemed to have embarked on a more social journey, seemingly enjoying lunches and cocktails with friends.

Based on her stories, Sanna – who gave up politics last September to join the Tony Blair Institute – posted a photo of passersby near Radio City, tagging it ‘NYC’.

The shot captured the essence of New York tourism, including the famous yellow cabs and towering buildings.

During her trip, she also attended a “work lunch” with friends, where she indulged in a fish salad with leafy greens and a starter of fresh bread.

Later, the ex-Social Democratic leader and two friends filmed a selfie video while walking through New York City’s sixth largest park, Central Park.

For the trip, she wore an off-white outdoor jacket that she paired with black leggings and matching black accessories.

She and a friend then posed in a storm while sitting in front of a large water fountain.

Hours later, Sanna posted an image of a cocktail topped with a purple flower, which she called “the cutest drink ever.”

In her final photo of the day, the politician and her friends were pictured meeting an old colleague for dinner at a New York restaurant.

She dressed in all black for the night out, while her shoulder-length dark brown hair was neatly styled with a side parting.

Sanna was the world’s youngest prime minister when she took office in 2019. She lost the general election in Finland to conservative party leader Petteri Orpo in April 2023.

Last May she announced that she was divorcing her husband Markus Räikkönen after 19 years together.

The couple, who share five-year-old daughter Emma Amalia Marin, were rarely seen together in public in the months leading up to their divorce.

Sanna recently shared a series of photos from a visit to Berlin earlier this week.

Among the photos was one of the city’s memorials to the murdered Jews of Europe, which opened in 2005 and is described as “a place of contemplation, a place of memory and warning.”

She also visited the German Ministry of Health while in town.

The series of photos, which racked up more than 61,000 likes and 820 comments in the 20 hours since they were posted, were accompanied by a simple caption.

It simply said: ‘Berlin’ and was followed by a black heart emoji.

The visit comes just weeks after Sanna visited war-torn Ukraine.

Sanna went to Bucha, the site of the massacre of about 500 Ukrainians at the start of the war in March 2022.

She was in town with the HALO Trust, which works to clear unexploded landmines worldwide. In Ukraine, about 19,000 explosive devices have been neutralized since the start of the war with Russia, according to Marin.

In the war-torn country, the former Finnish prime minister – who was just 34 when she took office in 2019 – also briefly returned to diplomacy when she met Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

She said: ‘I have had the opportunity to participate in countless discussions about the state of the war, reconstruction and Ukraine’s European future.

‘It was also very interesting to visit a humanitarian demining site in Bucha, where an international organization HALO Trust works to make war-torn areas safe by clearing landmines and other explosives.’

Marin briefly dusted off her political hat, posed for photos with Mr. Shmyhal and sat down for lunch talks with the Finnish ambassador to Ukraine.

She said: “It was a great honor to meet Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko, Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.

‘With more than two years of brutal war, the need for international attention is more important than ever.

“To win the war, Ukraine needs even more political, financial, economic, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support. Sanctions must be enforced.”

As Prime Minister of Finland, Marin was one of Europe’s youngest leaders and oversaw her country’s successful application to officially join NATO.

Marin announced her resignation from politics, telling Finnish broadcaster YLE that it was “time to move on.”

She said: “I am eager to step into a new role. I also believe that all of Finland can benefit from it.

“I believe that I can serve those voters (in Finland) well and perhaps even better in the new assignment.”
