Sanna Marin poses for snap with Hillary Clinton – as she expresses her ‘honour’ at taking part in the 2024 Global Women Leaders Summit with former US Secretary of State

Sanna Marin posed for a photo with Hillary Clinton after both attended the 2024 Global Women Leaders Summit at the Bellagio Center, Italy.

The former Finnish prime minister, 38 – who gave up politics last September to join the Tony Blair Institute – shared photos of the event on her Instagramwhere she has more than a million followers.

The mother of one and jet-setter said she was “honored” to attend the conference, which was chaired by former US Secretary of State and Ambassador Melanne Verveer.

In the first photo in the gallery, Sanna, wearing an elegant white lace dress, grins as she poses next to Hillary, 76, who is wearing an elegant navy blue pantsuit.

The focus of the Summit is to facilitate reflection and strategic discussions on persistent barriers faced by women leaders globally, and on addressing persistent and escalating global conflicts that disproportionately affect women and girls.

Sanna also revealed that this year’s event, co-hosted by the Rockefeller Foundation and Georgetown University’s Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS), heard from “women activists and peacebuilders from Afghanistan, Sudan, Ukraine and Yemen as well as from Israel and Palestine’.

In her caption, she noted how summit leaders had drafted a statement and letter to the UN Secretary-General ahead of a meeting of special envoys and special representatives for Afghanistan in Doha, Qatar.

“It is a disgrace that Afghan women are not represented at the Doha III conference and we insist that Afghan women are given a seat at the negotiating table,” Sanna wrote.

“Now is the time for the UN and the international community to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to Afghan women and girls who are victims of draconian abuses and gender apartheid under Taliban rule.”

Footage from the event showed Sanna enjoying the Italian landscape and weather, and taking part in lectures and educational conferences.

Photos and videos show her enjoying the view as she sips coffee, takes glamorous selfies and grins in group photos surrounded by political VIPs.

Sanna was the youngest prime minister in the world when she took office in 2019. In April 2023, she lost the general election in Finland to the leader of the conservative party Petteri Orpo.

Last May, she announced that she was divorcing her husband Markus Räikkönen after 19 years of togetherness.

The couple, who have a five-year-old daughter Emma Amalia Marin together, were hardly seen together in public in the months leading up to their divorce.

Her recent trip follows a visit to New York in April.

Earlier this year, Sanna shared personal photos from the trip Instagram stories, including an informal stroll through Central Park.

The jet-setting mother of one headed to New York just days after her visit to Berlin, where she visited a Holocaust memorial and the German Ministry of Health.

This time, however, she seemed to have embarked on a more social journey, seemingly enjoying lunches and cocktails with friends.

Sanna posted a photo of passersby near Radio City, tagging it “NYC.”

The photo captures the essence of New York tourism, including the famous yellow cabs and towering buildings.

During her trip she also attended a ‘working lunch’ with friends, where she enjoyed a fish salad with leafy greens and fresh bread as a starter.

Later, the former Social Democratic leader and two friends took a selfie while walking through New York City’s sixth largest park: Central Park.

For the trip, she wore an off-white coat that she paired with black leggings and matching black accessories.

She and a friend then posed in a storm as they sat in front of a large water fountain.

Hours later, Sanna posted a photo of a cocktail with a purple flower on it, calling it “the cutest drink ever.”

Her last photo of the day showed the politician and her friends, fully made up, dining with an old colleague at a New York restaurant.

She wore an all-black outfit for the evening out and her shoulder-length brown hair was neatly styled with a side parting.

As Prime Minister of Finland, Marin was one of Europe’s youngest leaders and was responsible for her country’s successful application to officially join NATO.

Marin announced her resignation from politics, telling Finnish broadcaster YLE that it was “time to move on”.

She said: ‘I’m eager to take on a new role. I also believe that it can benefit all of Finland.

‘I believe I can serve those voters [in Finland] ‘Well, and maybe even better in the new assignment.’
