Finance and career expert Sanjna Pathania (pictured) has shared the five things she no longer buys now that she’s 28, but one of her picks turned out to be very divisive.

She said she would never spend her money on new technology, getting her nails done, bottles of water, new makeup, and books. Hundreds were outraged when she said she no longer bothers to buy physical books.

“Five things I don’t spend my money on anymore when I’m 28 years old,” said Sanjna on TikTok

The first thing he said he doesn’t do anymore is buy new technology when his old model still works.

Sanjna said she only uses a Kindle now because it’s cheaper and saves space.

‘I only buy technology if my current technology dies or is affecting my productivity or workflow. The improvement from each update is always minimal,” he said.

The most controversial item he no longer buys are books.

“I don’t have storage for these anymore,” she said, explaining that now she only uses a Kindle for reading.

“I can also carry my Kindle in my small bag, it’s also cheaper than buying physical books.”

The third thing the finance coach listed as unnecessary and “harmful” spending she is getting her nails done.

The finance professional also refuses to buy makeup unless she runs out of some. She believes that getting her nails done is a waste of time and money, as well as bad for her health.

“This is such an expensive, time consuming and most importantly detrimental to nail health exercise. It’s the natural nails that advance for me,” he said.

Sanjna also refuses to buy new makeup.

“I’ll only buy something if it’s finished and I limit my purchases to fit in my makeup bag,” she said.

She explained that she doesn’t even use everything in her makeup bag, so she doesn’t need to buy more.

The final purchase that you no longer spend money on is plastic water bottles, instead opting for a long lasting stainless steel option.

“I take my stainless steel water bottle with me everywhere, not only is it better for the environment, but it’s cheaper and the water stays fresh,” he said.

Many people took issue with the fact that Sanjna doesn’t see books as a necessary purchase.

‘I don’t agree with the books part, sometimes our eyes need relaxation, instead of looking at a Kindle. Reading books is much better,’ said one woman.

The last thing you no longer buy are plastic water bottles, instead opting for a long-lasting stainless steel option. She said the steel bottles are better for the environment and keep the water fresher.

You lost me in the books! I check out as many from my library as possible but I hate e-readers so I’ll buy a book if I can’t get a physical copy elsewhere,” wrote another.

Some people also disagreed with the nails and explained that personal care is necessary in their eyes.

‘I can’t not pay for nails. This is the only thing I will ever pay for: manicure, pedicure and brow liner,” another wrote.

“I feel good and groomed when my nails and brows are done, it’s a self-care thing I look forward to every month.”

“This almost feels like a person who spends money doing their nails is becoming irresponsible, which isn’t fair.” Nails and makeup is also a way of taking care of yourself and giving yourself importance,” agreed another.

Five things a financial advisor does not buy:

1. New technology – unless you need something for work productivity

2. Printed books: Sanjna said that using a Kindle is cheaper and more practical.

3. Getting your nails done: He said this is a waste of money, time consuming and bad for nail health.

4. New Makeup: Sanjna will only buy makeup if she runs out of something she wears.

5. Plastic Water Bottles: The pro trainer uses a long-lasting steel bottle because it saves money, is good for the environment, and keeps your water fresh.
