San Francisco 49ers make decision on Ricky Pearsall after he was shot in the chest during botched robbery

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was placed on the reserve/non-football injured list on Monday.

Last weekend, Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery by a 17-year-old boy.

As a result, the 23-year-old rookie wideout will miss at least the first four games of his rookie season following the incident in Union Square in San Francisco on Saturday.

To fill the vacancy on their 53-player roster, the 49ers signed offensive tackle Brandon Parker to a one-year contract.

According to San Francisco police, Pearsall was shot after a 17-year-old man tried to rob him. A struggle ensued, SFPD said, and both men were shot.

Pearsall was listed in fair condition on Sunday and was released from the hospital later that day.

The suspect was arrested Saturday as he tried to run from the scene, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said. The alleged gunman was also hospitalized after the shooting — his condition was not immediately released — and charges are pending.

According to ABC 7 San Francisco, Pearsall was signing autographs at an event Saturday morning before heading to Union Square.

The 49ers selected Pearsall, a wide receiver who turns 24 on Sept. 9, with the 31st pick in April’s draft. He signed a four-year, $12.5 million contract that includes a $5.9 million signing bonus.

He was limited in training camp with shoulder and hamstring issues, missing all three preseason games. He has a history of shoulder problems dating back to his college days at Florida.
