We recently reported that Samsung’s first major Galaxy S24 update will bring “improved options and experiences to the device’s display and camera,” and now we have a better idea of what exactly those camera upgrades will be.
In addition to a new Vibrance slider that will address concerns about the new phone’s display, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 update – which has already been rolled out in South Korea – will introduce several camera-related improvements specific to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
According to a moderator on Samsung’s Community forum (via 9to5Google), the new software update will improve the shutter speed and video clarity of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and improve the lighting and color expression of subjects. When you use the phone’s high magnification zoom lens, the clarity of the text is also improved.
The moderator’s blog post is written in Korean, but a quick translation of the page reveals the following update changelog:
- Image quality has been improved by adjusting the brightness when shooting against backlight in high pixel mode.
- Text clarity has been improved when using high magnification zoom. (Galaxy S24 Ultra only)
- Clarity and image quality have been improved when recording video from the rear. (Galaxy S24 Ultra only)
- In the photo mode example, the brightness of dark areas in indoor environments has been increased and the sharpness of people has been smoothly improved. (Galaxy S24 Ultra only)
- Expression has been improved by additionally applying color data in food mode.
- Colors have been improved by adjusting saturation and white balance in night mode.
- Image quality has been improved when zooming into the gallery after recording a new format DNG in the Expert RAW app.
- The expression of fast-moving subjects under backlight in rear photo mode has been improved. (Galaxy S24 Ultra only)
- The lighting and color expression of subjects (people, flowers, etc.) have been improved in photo mode. (Galaxy S24 Ultra only)
Samsung had already confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S24 update will improve the “zoom features, portrait mode, night graph and video recording capabilities with the rear camera” of all three Galaxy S24 phones, but the changelog above gives a more detailed look at what to expect .
We’re especially happy to see that “the expression of fast-moving subjects” (i.e. shutter speed) is improved on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as Samsung’s top phones – and smartphones in general – typically struggle to capture fast images to lay. moving objects detailed.
As for the reliability of this Samsung moderator, it’s the same person who confirmed last week that Instant Slow-Mo is coming soon to the latest generation of Samsung devices. And as mentioned, this update – complete with the upgrades described above – has already started rolling out in Korea, so we’re confident in its authenticity.
In a email sent to 9to5GoogleSamsung says its first major Galaxy S24 update will be available in other markets from February 22, so the rest of us don’t have to wait too long before the best camera phone gets even better.
