A person claims their wrist was burned by a Samsung Galaxy Watch while they were sleeping.

The post – which showed off the person’s injury and the back of the watch that apparently caused the burn – was shared by a user named TheMattsterOfSelf in the Reddit ‘WellThatSucks’ community.

In the comments, he says the watch is a Galaxy Watch ‘Active 2 44mm Bluetooth model’ that he’s used to manage insomnia for some time.

The user also says the markings from the incident are third-degree burns – which is the type that extends down to the fat layer that lies beneath the dermis.

He apparently visited an urgent care facility after finding the burns under the watch.

The user also said he did not wear any kind of skin cream and was taking sleeping medication, which is why he didn’t feel the burns until later into the night.

‘So I don’t know why exactly it managed to do this, just that something happened while my meds had me KO’ed and clearly the fault protection itself had a fault,’ TheMattsterOfSelf wrote

A few other Reddit users also mentioned having similar issues while wearing this model of the Samsung smartwatch.

Although wearables like FitBit, Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch are more commonly known for tracking your heart rate after some high intensity intervals, millions of people use them for sleep tracking as well.

Samsung smartwatches have been implicated for wrist burns in the past.

An investigation into a potential class-action lawsuit is examining other reports of Galaxy Watches causing burns and injuries.

Earlier this year, Fitbit recalled 1.7 million of its Ionic smart watches after 118 users were injured when they overheated – with two-thirds suffering third-degree burns.

In that case, owners received a $299 refund and discount on future purchases.

The problems were caused by the smartwatch’s lithium ion battery overheating.
