Samsung’s top-end devices are already expensive, but its 2025 devices could get even more expensive if they use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, which is expected to be the case for at least some devices.
Qualcomm, which makes Snapdragon chipsets, has previously said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will cost more than the Gen 3, and now we have an idea of just how much more, with reliable leakers @UniverseIce claim (via NotebookCheck) that it will cost $240 (about £185 / AU$360).
That’s apparently a 20.68% price increase compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which equates to around $40 (around £30 / AU$60) more.
And there’s no reason to think this price increase wouldn’t be passed on to consumers. That could mean not just the Samsung Galaxy S25 series seeing prices go up, but also the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, and countless other Android phones, including devices from OnePlus, Sony, Xiaomi, and more.
Many factors influence the price
Still, there are a few things to keep in mind. For starters, this news hasn’t been confirmed yet, so we’d take it with a grain of salt. Also, there are a lot of factors that go into the price of a phone, so while this is worrying news, it’s possible that other factors could keep the price down.
Moreover, brands like Samsung, which sell huge numbers of phones, may be able to negotiate a better price for the chipset.
There’s also the chance that companies will switch to other chipsets if the price is too high. Samsung already equips a number of its phones with the company’s own Exynos chipset, often including Galaxy S flagships in some regions, and then there’s MediaTek, which we previously heard Samsung would turn to for chipsets .
If this leak is true, there’s a good chance that a large portion of the best Android phones of 2025 will be at least slightly more expensive than current models.
