It looks like our best smart ring guide is due for a major update soon, as the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Ring has sparked a surge in interest in these mini smartwatches. The latest addition to the party is a crowdfunded smart ring from Moov, which promises to offer an additional health tracking feature.
The Indiegogo campaign has already surpassed its initial goal of $5,000, raising $95,923 at the time of writing. Crowdfunding continues until Monday, September 2, with shipping scheduled for December 2024.
The Moov Ring’s popularity, which is similar to that of the RingConn Gen 2, could be due to one key feature: It promises industry-standard continuous blood pressure monitoring, something that tech companies have long been trying to implement in wearables, and which you won’t find on the current Galaxy Ring or Oura Ring.
The device has apparently been in development for a decade and has been put together by experts in hypertension and data analysis, lending credence to the claim that it has managed to fit such a capable sensor into a small ring. It has apparently been achieved by photoplethysmography sensors and advanced algorithms.
A different kind of Moov
In addition to measuring blood pressure, the Moov Ring offers a whole host of other features: it lets you track your sleep, measure your stress levels, measure your skin temperature and track all the usual stats, such as the number of steps you’ve taken and your heart rate.
The team behind the ring promises up to seven days of battery life and a subscription-free companion app that tracks all your health and fitness data, giving you insight into where you’re performing well and where you can improve.
As far as we can tell, the Moov is behind the Indiegogo campaign is not the same Moov that used to make the now discontinued Moov Now fitness tracker. The old Moov Closed a few years ago, and no one from that old team seems to be involved in the new smart ring and the new company website.
The Moov Ring will cost $299 (around £235 / AU$455) when it goes on sale, but it’s available now for an early bird price of $239 (£185 / AU$360). As usual with crowdfunding, there’s no guarantee you’ll get your product or your money back – make sure you trust Moov with your money before investing (or wait until it’s a finished product that’s publicly available).
