Samsung Galaxy AI could soon provide real-time translations in WhatsApp

Live Translate is part of Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite of features that offers real-time translations between languages. It’s expected to be expanded to third-party apps in the near future, with WhatsApp likely to be one of the first apps to benefit.

According to reliable tipster @UniverseIce (through Newwin), WhatsApp integration is on the way, but no timeline was given. Samsung has previously said that other apps will get Live Translate, without specifying which apps those might be.

Exactly how the feature will work remains to be seen, but on compatible Samsung phones it’s already integrated into the default Messages app and works for phone calls too. There’s also a standalone Interpreter tool for on-the-fly audio translations.

From SamMobileThe integration could also be extended to audio calls in WhatsApp, allowing you to get translations between languages while talking to someone else, and have your text messages converted.

All about the AI

Phone makers are of course doing their best to pack as much AI into their devices as possible. Apple recently showed off a range of Apple Intelligence features that are coming to the iPhone later this year.

Google has also been busy with AI features. As you’ll discover in our Google Pixel 8a review, the mid-ranger is the latest Pixel to come with options for AI-generated wallpapers, live language translation for phone calls, AI-powered photo editing, and more.

Samsung certainly doesn’t want to be left behind when it comes to AI, and giving third-party apps the ability to access some AI magic could help it do just that. So, the word is out to Apple and Google.

We may hear more about new AI innovations at Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 10. Expected hardware launches include the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra.
