If you’ve been interested in buying a Samsung phone but want to save some money, you’ve probably looked into buying a refurbished mobile – buying updated technology has become a hugely popular way to save money on gadgets.
However, Samsung’s refurbishment program, called Re-Newed, doesn’t quite sell the company’s latest gadgets. In the UK, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series are the only ones sold, while in the US the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Note 10 are added. But if you want the latest Galaxy S22, or other devices like the Galaxy A53 or tablets, you’re out of luck.
However, that will change very soon. In a statement to TechRadar, Samsung confirmed that it plans to expand its Re-Newed range with newer smartphones in the future, so we can see future models like the Galaxy S23, or perhaps current ones, available for a lower cost.
Refurbished: what’s the deal?
Refurbished or renewed telephones are second-hand devices with one big difference. Rather than simply being resold, these devices are tested by technicians to make sure they’re up to the mark, and parts are often replaced or repaired to make sure the device feels as good as new.
This type of phone has been sold for years, but with the global cost of living crisis of recent years, refurbished technology has become extremely popular. That’s because these gadgets generally cost a lot less than their new siblings, despite working just as well.
Refurbished third-party stores have popped up to sell these types of gadgets, but many brands also sell their own updated technology, such as Apple. Samsung has struggled with it too, but as we’ve already discussed, it hasn’t kept up to date with the latest devices on offer.
Good news from Samsung
Due to various global factors, money is tight for many people around the world, which is why refurbished gadgets are particularly tempting.
As the largest phone company in the world, many people look to Samsung phones as their first port of call for a new device, but since the company doesn’t offer its newer handsets through Re-Newed, people should be looking to rebuild from third-party brands to get cheap. get newer devices.
However, it may be better for Samsung to renew its own phones than to let third parties do this. Since Samsung has easy access to its own components, the process could be cheaper and easier, saving money for the buyer. In addition, the technicians doing the refurbishment would be trained by the company itself, meaning the redesigned phones could potentially be of a much higher standard (and buyers will have more peace of mind).
Samsung will let you trade in older phones for money from newer ones, which means it probably has a large stock of used phones that it can easily refurbish, so hopefully there will be a large supply for buyers.
And like Apple, Samsung has plenty of brick-and-mortar stores around the world — so instead of ordering your refurbished phone and having it delivered to your home, pick it up at the personal store and check it out before taking it home.
So Samsung extending its Re-Newed line to newer phones is great news, and it will hopefully encourage many more fans of the company to pick up second-hand gadgets. Let’s hope the brand will do the same for its A-series phones and tablets.
