SAMI MOKBEL: Bayern Munich have a new hero and he’s England’s captain! Even by Harry Kane’s ridiculously high standards, his Bundesliga debut was breathtaking and will send shockwaves through Germany

‘Harry, Harry, Harry’, the accompanying Bayern Munich supporter roared. No wonder.

Even by Harry Kane’s ridiculously high standards, this was breathtaking to watch.

Bayern fired up their Bundesliga defense here with a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen.

And it was all orchestrated by Kane, who assisted the first for Leroy Sane on his full debut before scoring the second himself.

Sane and Mathys Tel later added two more, but Kane was already off the field by that point.

But the most terrifying prospect that arose here in Bremen last night is that this wasn’t even Kane in full flight. Far from it.

But, relevantly, this was Kane doing what Kane does. Winning football matches for his team.

He spent much of this encounter as an isolated figure as Bayern’s lone striker. The connection with his teammates needs to be worked on, his role in Thomas Tuchel’s tactical setup needs to be embedded.

He is still in touch in German football. That process will take time.

But imagine the devastation if he masters all this?

Of course, Kane doesn’t get carried away. He’s not the type. But – wow – what a start he has made.

Because football is a game of numbers: points, goals, assists. Kane, more than any other football player, lives by those rules. He’s already on the scoreboard.

With a designer toiletry bag in hand and wireless headphones plugged in, Kane snapped a picture of total concentration as he emerged from the Bayern team bus about 90 minutes before kick-off.

Tunnel vision. It’s a look Tottenham and England have become accustomed to over the years; one that Bayern can’t wait to get to know.

But even as he prepared for one of the biggest nights of his career, even Kane certainly couldn’t have written what was to come next.

There were memories of home on this memorable evening. When Three Lions’ unmistakable opening piano hits blared from the PA system here at the Weser Stadium as Kane warmed up, a wry smile appeared on the striker’s face.

The lyrics were in German, but it resonated with Kane. Who knows, it may have helped ease the nerves as he prepared for the unknown.

The presence of Werder defender Miloš Veljković – marking directly for Kane – would also have struck a chord, the pair playing together at Tottenham.

But those home comforts aren’t why Kane is here.

The Premier League is all he’s ever known. He wants to experience the unknown, he wants to prove to the world that his brilliant football brand can be transferred around the world.

And it took him less than four minutes to impress. It was instinctive, almost telepathic.

Kane barely looked up or played a brilliant first pass in the path of Leroy Sane to destroy Werder’s defense with a simple swing of his right leg.

Sane did the rest, relentlessly blasting past Jiri Pavlenka to blast Bayern ahead.

Ninety seconds later, Kane was in his own penalty area and made a crucial defensive header to prevent a Werder equaliser.

That’s ‘The Kane Effect’ – as Tuchel calls it – in a nutshell. Decisive in attack, diligent in defense.

That said, Kane should have converted a glorious header from a Sane corner in the 25th minute, and also saw another effort saved by Pavlenka in the 61st minute.

But his moment finally came in the 74th minute, when he brushed past the Werder keeper after Alphonso Davies’ pass.

Kane twisted his arms up beside him to receive the admiration of his new adoring fans.

It’s a party Tottenham fans will never forget – one they will hopefully see again.

But now it’s Bayern’s turn. And if this start is anything to go by, they’re in for a treat.
