Samantha Murphy Ballarat disappearance: Chaos in the search as sleuth Facebook group is DELETED

An amateur attempt to find missing mother Samantha Murphy comes to nothing when a close family friend suddenly announces she is deleting a major Facebook group.

The administrator of ‘Find Samantha Murphy’ – which attracted thousands of members since the mother-of-three disappeared from her East Ballarat home on Sunday, February 4 – announced on Monday she would be removing the group.

It comes after authorities scaled back the official search for Ms Murphy this weekend.

Cin Hobbs, who runs the Facebook group, said: ‘This group has served its purpose and we have been given permission to remove.

“This in itself is a huge mission as I have to remove every member… the best thing you can do for her is help speed up the process by removing yourself.”

It is understood that the group was removed after personal attacks and infighting occurred.

The group had more than 20,000 members as of last week, amid intense speculation about Ms. Murphy’s disappearance and efforts by members of the public to find her.
