Samantha Armytage reveals ‘disgusting’ item pulled from her body during major surgery: ‘So much pain’

Samantha Armytage has shared photos of material removed from her body during hip surgery.

The 47-year-old Farmer Wants A Wife host shared a photo on Instagram on Thursday morning of a piece of cartilage removed from her hip joint.

“Do you want to see something disgusting from my recent surgery?” she asked her 257,000 followers, before warning those who didn’t want to see the sickening item.

In the slide below, Armytage first presents the three-centimeter piece that resembles a piece of popcorn.

“Lol. I knew you all would be looking,” she continued. “This is a 1.25-inch chunk of rocky cartilage that has been floating around in my hip joint for decades.”

Armytage added: ‘As my surgeon said, “You must have been in so much pain!” I was.’

Earlier this week, Armytage shared photos of herself after surgery at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Sydney.

In addition to photos of herself on crutches, she spoke extensively about her recovery and gave fans insight into the major surgery.

In a lengthy caption, Armytage explains that she has long suffered from osteoarthritis in her right hip, after tearing away cartilage, the fibrous material that prevents bones from rubbing against each other.

“Hip, hip hooray. New hip, new me, no worries. A few weeks ago I had a total hip replacement,” she wrote.

‘After a very active childhood full of outdoor activities (and a skiing accident 30 years ago) I tore all the cartilage from my right hip.

“It was bone on bone and then filled with severe arthritis. I am so proud of how strong my body is and how well I have healed.

‘I am truly bionic now… and my loved ones are happy that they no longer have to see me hobbling around in pain.

‘A huge thank you to the wonderful nurses @stvincentshospitalsydney for the care, a bit of Endone (pic 5), lots of rehab and all my beautiful friends for filling my room with flowers!.. xx

‘*Fun fact: There are 54,000 hip replacements performed in Australia each year, but I have to say my surgeon, Dr Michael Solomon, is THE best.’

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease in which the tissue in the joint breaks down over time. This condition is more common in older people.

The former Sunrise star explained that she underwent hip surgery to treat the condition and assured her fans that she is doing well during her recovery.

Recovery from hip replacement surgery can be slow and may require special physical therapy.
