Sam Thompson reveals his best friend Pete Wicks ‘went off radar’ when he was ‘on the edge’ over Zara McDermott split as he speaks out on breakup for the first time

Sam Thompson has spoken out about his shock split from Zara McDermott, with his best friend Pete Wicks revealing the star was ‘on the edge’ after the break-up.

Sam and Pete returned to their popular podcast Stay relevant Monday marked the first episode they have recorded since MailOnline revealed that Sam and Zara had split last month after five years together.

Strictly star Pete opened the episode by asking Sam: ‘What’s going on? with Sam admitting it’s been a ‘really tough month’.

Pete, who is thought to have spent Christmas with Maura Higgins, admitted he hadn’t spoken to his best friend after the split came to light, explaining: ‘I went off the radar for a few weeks, I put my phone in a drawer and gone.”

Sam joked about the lack of contact with his friend, telling him during their podcast reunion, “I’ve been going through some stuff Pete and I’ve called you fifteen times.”

“I felt bad, I fell off the radar and I didn’t realize you were basically on the edge over Christmas,” Pete admitted.

“It didn’t feel right!” Sam replied. “Pete was in a really nice retreat somewhere in the world, having a great time and in a hot tub, which was really healthy.”

Pete explained how he ended up calling Sam, joking: ‘My favorite part was when I asked Sam how was your Christmas and he said, ‘It was like I was in a Christmas grave. I’ve been sitting in the house surrounded by Christmas stuff and I’m not feeling Christmassy.”

“I was getting calls from our PR, our team, everyone saying you spoke to them non-stop over the Christmas period saying can you please call him, can you please call him.”

“So within thirty seconds of him going through his stuff, we just moved on and he started laughing. Sometimes you need someone who won’t enable your depression.”

Hours before the podcast was released, Zara appeared to confirm that she has moved out of the home she shared with ex Sam, as she gave her fans a glimpse into her busy day on TikTok.

The TV personality documented her final day of filming for Morning Live, which began with Zara getting an early start at her new home and bundled up in a cozy sweater from H&M to beat the freezing weather before heading to London to catch the train to the to jump in the north of England. .

In addition to her morning care routine, the reality star quickly applied her makeup on the train and after joining her film crew, recorded her latest segment for the BBC daytime show.

After treating herself to a cake from Greggs, Zara ended her day by hitting the gym with her friend Alice and washing her hair.

Zara and Sam started dating in 2019 after Made In Chelsea star Sam, 32, slid into her DMs on Instagram.

But around New Year’s it was reported that the couple had recently split, although neither has publicly commented on the breakup.

It comes after fans were convinced they knew the real reason why the couple split after not spending Christmas together.

The couple split just a month after Sam shared a glowing post about his ‘soulmate’ Zara on her birthday.

In the Instagram post, the radio host described Zara as his “best friend” who is “stuck to him forever.”
