Sam Thompson has admitted he was ‘never quite himself’ on Made In Chelsea due to his ADHD problems, as he shared how his diagnosis is affecting his relationship with girlfriend Zara McDermott.

In an interview with TikTok star Holly Morris, the reality star, 31, was asked during an Inside Out 2 press conference when he stopped masking and started acting like his true self.

Sam replied: “When I was on Made In Chelsea, a lot of the time I wasn’t even really myself, I was who I thought I should be. Because everyone was doing these things, I thought, “I should be doing these things.”

‘It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve fully been myself. I’m not super Mr. every day. Happy Golden Retriever.

The 2023 King Of The Jungle also opened up about how his ADHD affects his relationship with 27-year-old documentary maker Zara, after he had a brief role in the Disney Pixar film.

Sam said to Holly: ‘I’m at home with Zara, who, poor girl, I literally don’t want to speak to for an hour sometimes.

‘Why? Because you’re like, “My social battery is completely dead.” But then there’s like an irritable me that goes through the roof up there.’

He added, “I understand that to the point where sometimes when they talk to me I talk to myself.

“So when Zara talks to me, she tells me a story about her day, and I think, ‘Okay, this is it. This is the time when you need to be a good boyfriend. This is the time when you need to be a good boyfriend. crux. She wants to feel heard.

“So I’ll say, OK, go! “How was your day?” And she’s telling me about her day, and my thoughts go, ‘I don’t know what she just said.’

Sam and Zara started dating in 2019 but split when Sam discovered she was cheating on him.

Although Sam was hesitant at first, the two worked things out and have been going strong ever since.

Sam was diagnosed with ADHD, Tic Syndrome and Autism in 2023.

In an April interview with a young boy on his radio show, Sam said of ADHD, “I think it’s a complete superpower.”

“I think you’re creative, you hyper-fixate on things that you like and absolutely love.

“I think Thomas, and this is probably the best advice I can give you, is something huge: Find something that you absolutely love, and put all that ADHD into it, because you will succeed in whatever you do if you enjoy it.

“I promise you, ADHD, when you do something you love, it’s a superpower and you will literally be the best in the room.

“And I’m very happy that I have an ADHD brother, a neurodiverse brother like you, my husband.”

Sam posted the sweet interview to his Instagram to open up about his ADHD and raise awareness for young children at school.

He captioned the post with, “I don’t talk about my ADHD too much on here, not nearly enough to be honest. I work in an environment where my ADHD is celebrated as part of Who I Am, and I am incredibly lucky.

‘But I also know that this is not the case everywhere, and certainly not in schools. I remember being younger and feeling different and not understanding why.

“When I was in school, I wished I had someone to tell me I was doing okay, and someone to tell me it wasn’t because I was stupid, that I didn’t care, and that I was deliberately not paying attention .

“It was because I had undiagnosed ADHD. I really hope I can be a small part of young people accepting themselves for who they are, neurodiverse or not.”

In May 2023, Sam revealed to MailOnline that he burst into tears when he was diagnosed as neurodivergent.

He explained, “I didn’t think it would bother me, and after six hours of therapy she told me I had ADHD.”

The expert then told Sam that he was a ‘very special person’ and at that point he explained: ‘I just cried, I got very emotional. So yeah, it was definitely a relief.”

Sam then revealed that it was his desire to become a father that ultimately led him to seek help for his ADHD.

The Stay Relevant podcaster admitted one day that he “really wants kids” but felt like he “couldn’t even take care of himself” and had to find a way to cope.

Sam explained: “I think knowing I have it has made me a better person and more self-aware.

‘I want to be a father, I’m not saying that now, but at some point I want to know that I can take care of someone. I want to be the person they look up to, who they feel safe with and who I can care for.’

Sam once again opened up about his circumstances during his time in an Australian jungle for I’m A Celebrity.
