Sam Smith packs on the PDA with their fashion designer boyfriend Christian Cowan on loved-up outing in NYC – as they quash split rumours

Sam Smith proved their relationship is strong when they packed on the PDA with their fashion designer boyfriend Christian Cowan on Wednesday.

The singer, 31, kissed their partner as they stepped out together in New York City – quashing rumors that they had split.

There were fears about romance over Christmas amid claims Sam had signed up to celebrity dating app Raya after the couple went their separate ways.

However, a source close to Sam revealed to MailOnline shortly afterwards that they were still together, questioning the authenticity of the star’s profile on Raya.

During the outing, Sam looked as stylish as ever in a blue patterned skirt and gray jacket, teamed with chunky trainers.

Meanwhile, Christian, 28, cut a fashionable figure in a black quilted jacket as he sipped a cup of coffee.

In early January, a close associate of Sam opened up about how their relationship was still going strong and dismissed claims that the singer had been active on Raya.

They told MailOnline: ‘Sam and Christian still have a strong relationship and haven’t been on Raya yet.

‘As there is a profile for them on the app, the fear now is that someone will pretend to be Sam and they will talk to Raya about it.’

The five-time Grammy Award winner has been dating Christian since January last year after a meeting in which the clothing designer worked with Sam on the costumes for their music video I’m Not Here to Make Friends.

Christian, whose clientele includes A-listers Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B and Heidi Klum, confirmed his romance with Sam with a kiss in January 2023 when the two walked arm in arm in New York.

It is Sam’s first public relationship since their split from 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn, 30, and after coming out as non-binary in 2019.

In 2019, Sam revealed that they identify as non-binary and asked to be addressed by the pronouns they/them instead of he/him.

Sam wrote on Instagram: ‘After a lifetime of being at war with my gender, I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.’

Regarding their gender, Sam said: ‘I’m not a man or a woman, I think I fall somewhere in between. It’s all on the spectrum.’

The singer, known for hits Dancing With a Stranger, Too Good At Goodbyes and 2015 Bond track Writing’s on the Wall, which won the Oscar for best song in 2016, says he is open to dating whoever they fall in love with .

“In general, I’ve never really thought about people, any human beings, in rigid terms.

“I grew up in a family where the balance of power between the genders and all these things had completely shifted.

‘My mother worked, my father was a househusband. My sisters are incredibly strong women.’

In addition to their romance with Brandon Flynn, Sam also dated Jonathan Zeizel and thanked the model for “breaking their hearts” as it led to their four Grammy wins.

Sam wrote the song Stay With Me after their break-up and later vowed to ‘never fall in love with someone who doesn’t love me back’.
