Sam Smith cuts a sleek figure in a cocoon coat and quirky glasses as they head out in New York City.

They have created quite a statement with their bold and eccentric costumes of late.

But Sam Smith seemed a far cry from his stage persona when they stepped out in a casual ensemble in New York on Wednesday.

The non-binary singer, 30, donned a chic black cocoon coat which they layered over jeans and a striped tunic for the outing.

Godless singer Sam completed the look with chunky work boots and oversized wacky glasses.

Sporting an unshaven face, the talented artist opted for dangling earrings and carried a bottle of water in addition to his phone.

It comes after Oasis singer Noel Gallagher, 55, criticized Sam in a foul-mouthed rant calling the pop star a “fucking idiot” last week.

Speaking on the Dutch radio station he went on to confuse the non-binary singer by referring to them as ‘he’.

Noel was talking about the “current state of pop music” when he turned his attention to Sam, who uses the pronouns they/them.

The Wonderwall hitmaker said: “Music has been quite fractured and chart music is dominated by pop. Pop music is okay if the pop stars are cool. Unfortunately, today’s stars are fucking idiots.

When asked who he thought was one of the ‘not cool’ stars, he was quick to reply ‘Sam Smith’.

When asked why he chose the Unholy singer, Noel apparently ignored Sam’s preferred pronouns, saying, “Look at him!”

Sam previously revealed that they were spat at in the street after coming out as non-binary.

The Unholy hitmaker changed his gender pronouns in 2019 and said he wishes he had done it sooner, but he also spoke about the shocking reaction.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, they said that while there have been no issues with their new gender identity in their personal lives, they have been bullied on the streets of England ever since they came out.

They explained: ‘I think all the negative aspects of the struggle have been in my public life and my work. And just the amount of hate and sh*t that was thrown at me was just exhausting.

‘I was on the damn news. Someone spat on me in the street. It’s crazy. What’s hard for me is, if that’s happening to me and I’m famous, I’m a pop star, can you imagine what other kids feel like, like queer kids?

“And it’s so sad that we’re in 2023 and it’s still happening. It’s exhausting and especially in England.

Sam added: ‘So we have two sides, really. My personal life and then my public life. And in my personal life, there is nothing negative.

‘My family, they can communicate with me. They always did. But now they communicate with me in an even better way. My love life has improved because of it. I feel adorable. I feel comfortable in my skin, but I wear what I want to wear.

‘Since I changed my pronouns, it felt like coming home. I wish I knew what the words were when I was in school, because he would have identified me that way in school. Because it is what I am and it is what I have always been.’

Last month, British singer Sam sparked a dispute over ‘hypersexualised’ dancing in his new music video with critics arguing it is ‘normalizing pornography’ in pop culture, but fans claim it is ’empowering’.

The ‘raunchy’ video for the singer’s new song, I’m Not Here To Make Friends, sparked a debate over whether she should have age restrictions on platforms like YouTube due to their allegedly explicit content.

It shows them arriving at a castle by helicopter before dancing alongside a large number of performers dressed in corsets, suspenders and nipple tassels.

A fountain of water is also seen being sprayed into the singer’s mouth.
