AFL legend and media personality Sam Newman has criticized the Sydney Swans for a grand final performance he called “outrageous” and criticized the AFL for their tribute to Indigenous icon Uncle Jack Charles.

Interviewed on Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise on Sunday, the 76-year-old who played an amazing 300 games for the Cats was devastating to the Sydney siders.

Sam Newman has blasted the Sydney Swans for a grand final performance he described as ‘disgraceful’ and ‘insulting to fans’

Newman said the Swans played ‘the most ridiculous football’ he had ever seen in their 81-point AFL Grand Final capitulation to the Geelong Cats

“The Swans were disgraceful. Not because they lost, but because the game supposedly ended at a quarter to time and they played the most ridiculous football I’ve ever seen,” Newman told Channel 7’s Sunrise programme.

“It was almost insulting to the fans, the 100,000 that came down.

“The people who went there, most of them would be very disappointed with the level of our game that was played yesterday,” Newman said.

Newman seemed confused as to why the AFL decided to honor Indigenous icon Uncle Jack Charles at the Welcome To Country ceremony.

Newman was critical of the AFL’s decision to honor Indigenous icon Uncle Jack Charles

“We gave a eulogy to a man named Jack, who I have no idea why we did. He doesn’t play soccer as far as I know,” Newman said.

Uncle Jack Charles was a prominent figure on NITV’s Yokayi Footy and was the voice of the 2022 AFL Finals advertising campaign.

Before his death earlier this month, Uncle Jack Charles held a monologue on Yokayi footy to celebrate the contribution of indigenous peoples as our modern warriors.

Newman was happy for Geelong because, in his words, he did what they had to do to win. As a spectacle, however, Newman found the game ‘pretty ordinary’

However, Newman was very happy with his Cats.

“The quality of the football that Geelong played was not great, but they were fantastic because they did what they had to do. Honestly, they treated it like a training run,” he said.

“If you have a team that is eight or twelve goals down, plays the ball around and the hand passes the back line for whatever reason, I don’t know who designed the game plan and decided the Swans were going to come down to play.” play like this, they should play like this and play like this, they should take a good look at themselves because it was a shame.

“Good from Geelong, a fantastic club run by a great man and some great players. It was very nice to see them win. But as the spectacle of our great game in Australia, it was pretty ordinary,” said Newman.

The Cats presented the Premiership trophy to their fans in Geelong on Sunday morning after a wild night of partying.

Jeremy Cameron posted some videos of him partying with friends in a barn on his farm.

He then gave his medal to one of his cows, who swung it around his neck, during one of the most bizarre grand closing celebrations in history.
