Sam Neill apologises for ‘worrying everyone’ after revealing stage-three blood cancer and saying he is ‘preparing’ for the drugs he is taking to stop working
Sam Neill has apologized to his supporters for ‘making everyone worried’ after opening up about his battle with stage three blood cancer.
The Jurassic Park star, 76, shared Australian story On Monday it turned out that chemotherapy didn’t work and he is taking a new experimental drug that is now working to fight his non-Hodgkin’s blood cancer, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.
Despite the promising news, Neill says his doctors have told him the drug will one day stop working.
The actor took to Instagram on Tuesday, claiming his comments were “taken out of context” and telling fans to “please stop worrying.”
“Last night they were showing Australian Story, and I made the comment in passing that the treatment I’m receiving, which is putting me in remission, will inevitably fail one day,” he began.
‘That’s what happens. It’s nothing to worry about. I am in remission and I plan to stay in remission for many years to come. I’ll bore you all to death with a lot more work.’
Neill continued: ‘If the medicine doesn’t work, we try something else. Nowadays all kinds of things are happening in the field of cancer (treatments). It’s a whole new game.’
‘Please don’t worry anymore. I get a lot of messages on social media and from friends. I’m sorry for worrying everyone,” said an emotional Neill.
‘It’s okay. It’s all fine. It is a beautiful day. I go to work.’
During the interview on Monday, Neill said he found out he had cancer on his first trip back to New Zealand last year, after the lockdown made returning home to see his family virtually impossible for two years.

He said his doctors have told him the experimental drug won’t work one day — which he is “prepared for.”
‘I’m absolutely not afraid of dying. That doesn’t worry me. “I never worried about that from the beginning, but it would irritate me,” he added.
‘I would be annoyed because there are things I still want to do. Very annoying, dying. But I’m not afraid of it.’
Symptoms of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma may include high fever, night sweats, rash, and autoimmune diseases.
