Sam Moore dead at 89: Soul Man singer dies at Florida home after suffering ‘post-surgery complications’

Singer Sam Moore, who performed as one half of the Grammy-winning R&B duo Sam & Dave, has died at the age of 89.

Moore died in Coral Gables, Florida, after suffering complications during surgery.

The hitmaker was known for his 60s chart-toppers Soul Man, I Thank You and Hold On I’m Coming.

He first showed a talent for music while singing in church, and later became MC at King O’ Hearts Club in Miami.

There he met Dave Prater, who would become his bandmate, and with whom he would be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
