Sam Mendes has said he would be “great” if a woman directed the next James Bond film.
The Oscar-winning film director, 57, who was behind Skyfall (2012) and Specter (2015), revealed his thoughts on what he thinks should happen in the future of the franchise.
Sam said he believes the director needs to “evolve” with the movies as the lead actor does, with Daniel Craig, 54, who starred as 007 in five films from 2006 to 2021, leaving the iconic films after No Time To Die.

He told Deadline“I think the actor who plays Bond is going to evolve, the director has to evolve. I think it would be great to see a woman direct Bond, I would love it.”
The latest Bond episode No Time To Die was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and director Sam said he doesn’t believe the franchise will ask him again, as he had already made two films.
He continued: ‘I don’t think they want me anymore. It was incredible to do at that point in my life; I couldn’t have wished for anything better – I saw the world in a different way.’

Sam also admitted that he thought the film industry was “done” after the Covid-19 pandemic hit before the vaccine was rolled out.
The Bond franchise, based on the spy novel series by Ian Fleming, who died in 1964, made history last year after calling Lashana Lynch the first black female 007.

The account — under the late writer’s name — shares a cryptic post from a retro typewriter, teasing the announcement for October 5, which is officially dubbed “James Bond Day.”
It comes as rumors continue to circulate about who will take over the role of 007 agent – with stars like Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill looking to be the frontrunners.
‘See you on James Bond Day! #007,” the account wrote, adding eye emojis.
