Matildas star Sam Kerr has been caught on video muttering the words ‘oi ya’ to a group of reporters after learning she will stand trial for racially abusing a police officer next month.

The 31-year-old appeared at Kingston Crown Court in London on Tuesday hoping the charges would be dismissed, but was due to stand trial from February 3.

The Chelsea forward is said to have insulted, threatened or panicked a police station as he returned home in a taxi after a night out with her fiancé Kristie Mewis on January 30, 2023.

Kerr is said to have called PC Stephen Lovell a ‘stupid white b*****d’ after speaking to her about a taxi fare dispute.

Kerr’s legal representatives denied that she used the word “son of a bitch,” instead calling the officer a “stupid white cop.”

Outside court the Matildas star was heard using the phrase as she tried to push through a group of journalists as she made her way to a waiting vehicle.

Kerr’s lawyer Grace Forbes previously requested CCTV footage from outside Twickenham police station and inside their custody suite as evidence.

It is understood PC Lovell was called to the scene at Twickenham over a taxi fare dispute after the superstar footballer spent the evening celebrating an FA Cup win over Liverpool – where she scored a hat-trick.

Kerr also reportedly vomited in the taxi and was arrested and interviewed at the time.

Her legal team has argued that Kerr was the victim of an abuse of process after it took a year for her charges to be filed.

The trial begins on February 3 and will last several days, but Kerr – who is in the middle of a long recovery after tearing her ACL in January 2024 – is not required to attend.

As for matters on the pitch, Kerr – who is expecting her first child with fiancé Mewis – is not targeting a return to Chelsea until March at the earliest, Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor has revealed.

‘We might want her back with us [in] February [or] March, not before,” Bompastor told the media last month. “She is still doing her individual process rehabilitation.

“It will take at least two to three months before she is fit enough to be part of the team.”
