Sam Kerr’s withdrawal from the Olympics had a silver lining for the Matildas star as it allowed her to enjoy a luxury holiday in Mexico with her fiancé and fellow footballer Kristie Mewis.
While her Australian teammates were put through their paces in Adelaide ahead of Friday night’s friendly against China, the couple enjoyed the sun, sea and lush surroundings at a top Los Cabos resort.
With rooms costing as much as $6,800 per night, the Viceroy hotel offers incredible views of the Sea of Cortez, five picturesque pools, ultra-modern water view rooms, a rooftop bar and several gourmet dining options.

In recent days, Kerr and Mewis have treated their social media followers to a glimpse of their stylish holiday, showing them getting dressed to the nines for a meal, hanging out in their room, pony riding and even watching a performance by an artist dancing with fire while twirling her hair.
A clip from Mewis’ TikTok shows her dancing while applying makeup before heading out, as Kerr enters the room and shows off the engagement ring she publicly debuted in April.
Kerr repeatedly captioned photos of the hotel with the words “in paradise” as she posted photos of her fiancé taking in the surroundings.
The Matildas captain has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury in January, which denied her the chance to play as Chelsea won the Women’s Super League title for the fifth year in a row.
Her torn anterior cruciate ligament crushed her dream of representing Australia at the Paris Olympics in July when her omission from the team was officially revealed earlier this month.

That marked a shocking start to 2024 for the 30-year-old, who was accused of racially harassing a police officer in a bombshell announcement in March.
She pleaded not guilty but suffered another setback when her defense team’s attempts to have the charges thrown out failed, forcing her to face a four-day trial in February next year.
Mewis was sidelined by an injury she sustained in February while playing for West Ham and was unsure if she was available to play for the US in the Olympics when she was interviewed in March.
Meanwhile, Kerr’s Matildas teammates have been training hard for their matches against China in Adelaide on Friday and in Sydney on Monday.
Mary Fowler will certainly feature in Paris unless she gets injured, but several other members of the squad are chasing the three Olympic spots revealed by coach Tony Gustavsson that are still up for grabs.
The Swede has chosen 15 of the 18 players he can take with him to France, with one place reserved for Katrina Gorry if she can overcome her injured ankle, which required surgery.
That means the remaining spots are being chased by the likes of Courtney Nevin, Cortnee Vine, and Charli Grant.
“The worst thing about being a head coach is that at the end of this week I have to tell someone that you’re not going to the Olympics,” Gustavsson said.
“It’s a lot of evaluating training, watching players, meeting with the coaching staff, and preparation isn’t just about the match, it’s about the Olympics.
“The competition is a huge step in preparing for the Olympic Games… we don’t have that many competitions left to prepare for, so it’s a very, very important competition.”
