Sam Kerr has jokingly compared her romance with Kristie Mewis to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship in a tell-all interview with Esquire Magazine.
Kerr, 30, and Mewis, 30, are the football world's golden couple, with fans obsessed with the pair's blossoming relationship since they first stepped out at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The couple met while both playing for rival clubs in the American League in 2019.
They spoke online for almost four months during the 2020 Covid lockdown before spending two weeks in quarantine together, where they quickly fell in love.
“I think one day we were talking about a clothing brand, and it just went from there,” Kerr said of the early days of their relationship.

The spotlight on Kerr has intensified since Australia's magical World Cup journey. She revealed that she appreciates when fans approach her with warm words, but admits that the extra media attention was an aspect she had to adapt to.
“The part that's new for the Matildas, and for me, is that people are now talking about our personal lives, or what house we bought, or how much money we make,” she said.

Kerr and Mewis faced each other on the pitch on a few occasions, most notably on that occasion in Tokyo. The United States won that day and Kerr admitted she felt torn as she took the field.
“That one was really bad because it was such a *** time for me, and such a great time for Kristie,” she added.
“It's so hard to want someone to lose when you love them so much.”
