Sam Frost has called the mental health system in Queensland after suffering a pregnancy scare at 22 weeks.

During her visit, she decided to book the birth of her baby and began filling out paperwork that included a “range of questions that included a psychological component.”

“I thought this was a general assessment and I wasn’t expecting questions related to my mental health history, childhood experiences, etc,” he wrote.

‘I could feel my chest tighten, my breath shorten, tears well up in my eyes, until I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I burst into tears and had a little anxiety attack.

‘The midwife was amazing. She was very kind, patient, and genuinely concerned. She explained to me in a low voice why she needed to ask these questions…she assured me that she will refer me to a psychologist and that someone will contact me.’

Sam explained that he waited for news from the hospital for several weeks and followed up “four times and emailed my concerns.”

“The screening process triggered a traumatic response, and not following through with appropriate mental health care was reckless and irresponsible,” she explained.

‘If someone who has a long history of depression, who has experienced difficulties in their childhood that worried them, would surface to become a parent, and a family history of postpartum depression does not meet the criteria for mental depression. health support… so who does it?’ she asked.

Sam continued: ‘After that phone call, I felt desperately alone. I felt betrayed by the system that I passionately defend.’
