Sam Faiers opens up about ‘naturally healing’ her Crohn’s disease as she reveals how she copes with the incurable lifelong condition

Sam Faiers has opened up about the ‘natural cure’ for her Crohn’s disease.

The former TOWIE star, 33, took to Instagram on Monday night after attending a holistic wellness event where she saw natural healing speaker Barbara O’Neill discuss the lifelong condition.

After her Crohn’s disease diagnosis in 2014, Sam previously admitted that she began to focus more on her health and wellbeing naturally.

Crohn’s disease is a lifelong condition in which parts of the digestive system become inflamed. There is no cure for Crohn’s disease, but treatment can help reduce or control your symptoms.

During the event, she asked Barbara what advice she would give to someone with the disease, recommending dietary tips including eating certain herbs.

Barbara claimed that with the right ‘natural approach’ the disease could be cured ‘quite quickly’, adding that she did not believe people could not be cured of the condition.

Sam shared a video of Barbara and wrote in her caption, “Last night I had the privilege of attending an intimate dinner with Barbara O’Neil, surrounded by naturopaths, authors, educators and more. It was an incredible experience to be part of such a beautiful community.

“During Barbara’s Q&A session, she answered my question about Crohn’s disease.

‘This message is not health advice or tells you what to do. I’m just sharing Barbara’s natural approach to healing Crohn’s disease, from her experience with natural healing. Take from it what you will, and maybe even try her advice to see how it works for you.

‘Of course, I got my Crohn’s disease under control almost ten years ago and I’m still learning new things every day. The body is truly amazing.

‘Excited for tonight’s Wellness Talk with Barbara and Philly! Although the event is sold out, you can still join in via livestream here – check out my stories x @realbarbaraoneill @barbara.oneill.heals @phillyjlay.”

In 2018, she said: “I was on medication for about a year [after diagnosis] and then I moved away from that and just explored things that are a bit more natural, so vitamins and minerals and a change in diet.”

In 2022, Sam discussed how her health issues with adult acne and Crohn’s disease inspired her to pursue her dream business: starting Revive Collagen.

What is Crohn’s disease?

Crohn’s disease is a lifelong condition in which parts of the digestive system become inflamed.

It is a type of condition called inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Crohn’s disease affects people of all ages. Symptoms usually begin in childhood or early adulthood.

The main symptoms are:

diarrhea

stomach pain and cramps

blood in your poop

fatigue (tiredness)

weight loss

Symptoms may be constant or may come and go every few weeks or months. If they come back, it’s called a flare-up.

There is no cure for Crohn’s disease, but treatment can help reduce or control your symptoms.

The main treatments are:

medicines to reduce inflammation in the digestive system – usually steroid tablets

medicines to prevent the inflammation from returning – tablets or injections

surgery to remove a small part of the digestive system – sometimes this can be a better treatment option than medications

‘I really enjoyed reading a study about all the holistic ways, about what I put into my body. What we eat and drink, but also what we look at and what we read, that is part of it.’

“At the time when my social life was taking over, I was traveling around the country and I was like, ‘No, stop, you have to take care of yourself.’
