Disgraced crypto prodigy Sam Bankman-Fried is being charged with illegal donations to politicians
Disgraced Sam Bankman-Fried made hundreds of illegal political donations in the US before his cryptocurrency exchange FTX collapsed, new court documents allege.
A new indictment in a Manhattan federal court accused the former crypto prodigy and his associates of making more than 300 donations totaling tens of millions of dollars using corporate funds or through so-called “straw donors” — those who illegally use other people’s money to a political contribution in its own name.
Prosecutors said the donations often enabled Bankman-Fried, 30, to ignore legal limits on individual contributions to political candidates.

The indictment also charged the entrepreneur arrested last year with conspiracy to commit bank fraud and running an unlicensed money transfer company.
It comes on top of previous charges, including eight counts of fraud, money laundering and others related to the now-collapsed Bankman-Fried FTX exchange.
He faces a total of 12 criminal charges to which he has pleaded not guilty.
