Foodies say this humble Italian deli serves the BEST sandwiches in Australia: ‘Nothing comes close’

Italian sandwiches are all the rage among Australian foodies at the moment – and there’s one unassuming spot in Sydney that stands out from the rest.

Sydneysiders love the authentic sandwiches at Salumerie, an Italian deli in the inner-city suburb of Potts Point.

The hotspot serves a range of drool-worthy focaccia sambos with delicious meats and cheeses, as well as Italian desserts and wines.

Salumerie founder Donato Salomone opened the deli to give Sydneysiders a taste of his hometown of Naples with sandwiches inspired by his mother’s cooking.

The homemade focaccia bread is crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside and the perfect container for the different combinations of fillings.

There is the salami with pecorino, mushroom cream, sun-dried tomatoes and grilled eggplant or the popular chicken cotoletta with a crispy schnitzel, salsa Rosa, Italian slaw and provolone cheese.

The mortadella is another fan favorite with salumi, pistachio pesto, stracciatella, arugula and crushed pistachios.

Diners can sit outside the deli in the sun to enjoy their sandwiches or grab one for the perfect on-the-go lunch.

Salumerie sells its spreads, from grilled zucchini to cold cuts and cheese, so customers can make their own charcuterie boards at home with fresh ingredients.

‘No joke if I don’t say anything, NOTHING comes close after I sink my teeth into this FOCACCIA GOODNESS! I’m not normally a sandwich kind of person, but I guarantee this is totally worth the hype and MORE,” one person enthused.

‘Simple, clean ingredients between the freshest bouncy focaccia bread (honestly the best part) – I couldn’t ask for anything better!’
