Salt Lake City has been announced as the host of the 2034 Winter Olympics.
The decision was ratified by the International Olympic Committee in Paris on Wednesday, days before the start of this summer’s Games.
Salt Lake City was the only candidate, as climate change and high operating costs have reduced the number of cities willing and able to host the Winter Games.
Utah has taken advantage of the lack of interest elsewhere and is presenting itself to Olympic officials as an enthusiastic, returning host, having hosted the Games in 2002.
Remnants of the 2002 Olympic Games can be found all over the city. For more than twenty years, they have kept the Olympic fever alive.
The 2034 Games organizers emphasized that continued enthusiasm throughout the selection process, showing visiting Olympic officials how they have preserved the 2002 venues.
