Salt Bae was criticized on social media after boasting that a customer’s bill came to a staggering £140,584 – with a single steak costing £1,030.

The Turkish millionaire restaurateur, known for his gold-leaf steaks and his signature salt-strewing pose, was criticized on Instagram by commenters who called the awards “insane” and “hugely selfish.”

The eye-watering bill came from Salt Bae’s Nusr-Et Steakhouse restaurant in Abu Dhabi, where 14 diners paid 615,065 dirhams (£140,584), meaning it cost 43,933 dirhams (£10,041) per person.

It is not known who owned the astronomical tab. But a number of high-profile people are currently visiting Abu Dhabi, which hosts the final race of the Formula 1 season this weekend and neighboring Qatar hosts the World Cup starting on Sunday.
